Here’s a few photos of the book out and about, and more importantly, actually being used by people.
You can still buy it if you want.
And if you do want to share a photo, just tag it with #theartofgettingstarted and I’ll see it, eventually.
I’m going to New York and Texas at the end of this month.
Other than that I’ll just be seeing things, eating things, and hanging out with people.
So, if you know of anything cool that’s happening, or want to maybe hang out*, let me know.
*Please no murderers / stalkers / crazies / or similar.
You may have noticed that I haven’t been posting new work for the last month or so. That’s partly because I’m working on a big project which is sucking me in, and partly because I hate pretty much everything I draw at the minute. Like this sketch.
The Ultimate Warrior was my favourite wrestler as a kid. So when I heard the news that he’d died I did what I normally do, picked out a quote of his and started to draw. After way too long I’d forced out this sketch, but 10 seconds after posting it to Instagram I realised I hated it and didn’t really want to finish it. So I’m not going to.
I think it’s ok to have periods when you hate and/or question your work. I also think it’s ok to have periods when you don’t fall into the trap of posting every single thing you make just to prove that you’re making something.
But it feels like that period has lasted a little too long now. Sharing work regularly, good or bad, has been a pretty important thing for me in the last few years. So even though I’m still in one of those periods where I’m hating everything I draw, I’m going to start posting more regularly again.
I watched both seasons of House of Cards over the weekend. It was one of those shows that I couldn’t stop watching once I’d started. Kevin Spacey is SO good in it, and I love the segments where he “breaks the fourth wall”. I finished watching it at around 3am last night, and I have a list of quotes to work through.
This is the first of them, and it’s also my first ever attempt at using watercolours. Although it didn’t turn out as watercoloury as I hoped it would, I really enjoyed the process. I plan to paint and try out other different techniques and materials more this year. So expect to see more watercolour pieces in the future.
And definitely expect to see more House of Cards / Frank Underwood quotes.
